College of Education Students Celebrate
First Day of Classes! August 27th, 2003 |

Setting
Priorities
Working with
officials from all five constituent colleges under the University umbrella, the
foundation will set reasonable goals and objectives for fund-raising projects
and activities. All activities will focus on achieving the mission of the
University of Livingstonia.
Make
a Difference
It is important for us, who have
so much, to help the people of this developing third world country move toward
self-sufficiency. Envisioned in 1895, the University of Livingstonia
officially opened its doors on August 27, 2003. University students, faculty and
staff, face daily challenges most of us will never encounter.
how
can
we
help?
-
Not many students can afford their
portion of school fees. The average cost of providing food, shelter and
education for one student is about $2,000 per year. The average salary of an
employed Malawian is about $ 1.00 per day.
 |
Help
well-qualified students like Samson Munthali and Jane Chikapa concentrate on
their studies by giving tuition assistance.
|
 |
-
Outmoded equipment makes it
difficult for teachers to help students become
competitive
workers for today’s world.
|
Help
purchase updated
teaching materials, supplies and
equipment for classrooms! |
 |
-
Adequate student and faculty
housing is desperately needed.
|
Help
provide housing and furnishings so students and
faculty can study, prepare for class and live comfortably! |
 |
| |
Historic building, Dr.
Laws' first home, has been partially renovated for use as the
women's hostel. |
-
Most students walk long
distances to class, to town, to visit friends. College of Education adjunct
faculty and food must be taken to Livingstonia.
A borrowed vehicle is used; reliable public transportation is not available.

Help
provide basic
transportation for students and university personnel!
Few own bicycles. It is a big
deal when they get a ride!
-
Many dedicated university staff
work for minimal compensation. They remain faithful to their duties despite
inadequate salaries and housing.
Help
attract and retain
excellent personnel!
